Use Secure Clean to clean up your computer and protect yourself from identity theft

You cannot watch TV, read a magazine, or visit a bank without seeing something about Identity Theft. It has become the fastest growing crime in America and can no longer be overlooked. CBS News reported that every 79 seconds a thief hacks into a computer, steals a victim's identity, and then goes on a buying spree.

When you use your computer to save personal information, surf the Internet, or purchase merchandise, your information may be at risk. Secure Clean will search for this information and notify you of potentially dangerous items.

Here are some simple step-by-step instructions that can protect you:

• Defragment - Defragmenting the computers hard drive organizes all of the data, which makes searching for the data faster for Windows. Follow the list below to defragment your computer on a Windows platform-

  2. Go to "Programs"
     
     
  3. Go to "Accessories"
     
     
  4. Go to "System Tools"
     
     
  5. Click on "Defragment" and follow the instructions it gives you
  
  
  
• Get rid of temporary Internet files- You can get rid of temporary Internet files in Internet Explorer options or in the control panel.
  
  
  1. In Internet Explorer, go to "Tools" and then to "Internet Options".
     
     
  2. There is a button that says "Delete Files".
     
     
  3. If you press the button it will remove the temporary Internet files.
     
     
  
  
  
• Cookies - Cookies are little files stored on the computer that help web pages load faster or to store sensitive information about their site pertaining to you. You can remove these by going to the same place to get rid of temporary Internet files. There is another button that says "Delete Cookies".
  
  
• Empty Recycle Bin. To empty the recycle bin, right click on the icon located on the Windows desktop. When the menu pops up, go to "Empty Recycling Bin."
  
  

(Note: Even though these steps will help clean most of the personal information stored on your computer, there is still some information that did not get cleaned.)

• Safely and reliably reclaim wasted disk space: All of the things we listed above take up lots of space over time. when you clean that information out you will increase your space on the hard drive by more than you think.
