The Two Computers Before Migration

The old computer has a family picture in the background and multiple shortcuts on the desktop. Also notice that the taskbar is at the top of the screen. Finally, all of your e-mail, photos, music, documents, and files are on this computer. After the migration, the new computer will look just like this and have all of your files.

Now let's look at the new computer's desktop before the migration. The background is the blue XP default color, and there are only three shortcuts on the desktop. None of your files, photos, games, music, e-mail, etc., are on the new computer. Notice that the taskbar is at the bottom of the screen. After the migration, the taskbar will be at the top, your files will be on the new machine, and your shortcuts and wallpaper will be set just like the old computer.

So How do You Fix the Problem and Transfer All Your Settings and Files?

Migrate Your Computer Settings

On the old computer, IntelliMover lets you choose which settings you want to move. For example, expand Internet Explorer and you can choose to move all of your settings except for the cookies. In Microsoft Word you can see that IntelliMover migrates many settings, including custom toolbars, templates, and even custom directories.

Select Files to Transfer

IntelliMover makes it easy for you to transfer the Windows "My" folders, like My Documents, My Music, etc. IntelliMover also lets you choose the file types that you want to move, like Excel, Word, Quicken files, etc.

Transferring Your Profile

IntelliMover transfers all the files and settings over to the new computer. IntelliMover displays a log of all that has moved. After the migration, you can view or print a report which tells you everything that has been moved and where it has been moved to.

As you use your new computer, you may find that you want to move files between your new computer and your old computer or vice-versa.
